Practicum experiences
If you had the chance would you utilize ICT (CALL) in your teaching?
I'd absolutely utilize ICT in my teaching because it has so much to offer to me as the teacher and to my students. I'd save some of my time when the students do their work through computers and the students would enjoy the lessons with ICT with what the computer and internet could offer.
How do you think it would help (or would not help) your students to learn English?
What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of implementing CALL in the Malaysian schools?
What are the barriers in implementing CALL in the Malaysian classroom?
I would say that we are lagging behind compared to other countries where computers are students' good friends. Learning through computers have so much to offer and not only they teach, but computers are also infotaining. Ministry of Education has to realize and buck up what Malaysian students are missing.

task 2

www.learn-english-today.com
1. This website can be found by just googling “learn English free”. This site can be used by anyone who wants to learn English. For the teachers who are teaching English, this website can be used as a reference with the notes and the exercises that covers from grammar to idioms. Besides the notes, exercises can also be found and used by the teachers. For students, beginners, intermediates, and advanced are welcomed to learn English through this portal. The fun activities such as wordgames and podcasts are targeted for everyone who understands English. There is even lesson on business English that can be used for working adults and for those who are not teachers.
2. Users do not have to worry with the content of the portal because they are very easy to toy with. After choosing what they want to learn in the website, they just have to read the notes and after they have understood the lesson, they can start to test themselves with the exercises available. The application of this website is very easy and students who have limited knowledge of using the internet can also use the website. For users who want to use the website for learning, they just have to know where to click in making sure that they get the right subject. They understand the lesson and continue with the lesson.
3. Users who want to use the website do not need to learn anything fancy on using computers or available software skills. This website does not require its users to download or equip the computers with any relevant extras. All the users need to know to do is how to click on the links that will take them to the links wanted. It’s a simple website than suits all users. a beginner in using a computer will not find any problem if handling the website as it is user friendly.
4. This portal somehow reminds me of my English class back at school and at home. At school, it is because of the exercises and lessons that my teachers have used to teach us back then. So as the exercises those were taken from the textbooks for us to do. As for at home, my parents have used similar exercises from reference books and all. I would say that this portal does remind me a little bit of my English classes back then. even if we were to browse English exercise books now, the concepts are pretty much the same as the one found in this website.
5. The setting of the website is best used in independent study lab with no teacher available because the instructions are simple that it requires not many instructions. Independent learner can just toy with the links that will bring them too many other portals. All they have to do is just choose the subject that they want to learn and the rest will follow through. so, it can be used as a homework for the students to do at home. In a teacher-led class with one or a few computers, this can be used with few students sharing a computer and practice the exercises while a teacher will instruct in front of the class. This website can be used in all situations.
6. This website uses direct method where the users are supposed to learn directly from the website without having to deal with any other help to help them understand the content. Since the language used is simple and a direct translation of English, users can easily understand whatever that they click on. In addition to that, the site also uses constructivist theory where users are free to learn on anything that they want to learn according to their level. Students have to understand the notes and then only they can jump to the exercises. Students are ought to use their newly acquired knowledge and new information that they get from the website that makes it constructivist
7. Vygotsky’s constructivist theory of learning is used here when students build and construct new ideas from the newly acquired and past information that they have learn. For instance, students will be able to understand the concept of ‘past participle’ after reading the notes from the website and combine it together with what they have learnt in their English class. It has constructivism part in it because this website allows students to learn the new information at their own pace and use the knowledge at their own level. in addition to that, this website also covers Gardner’s multiple intelligence as the exercises and notes that are available are suitable for level of students where students are tested in all aspects but not musical since there is no listening part in the website.
8. In my opinion, I think this computer is the replacement for teachers. This is because the computer helps to take over the teachers’ roles in teaching the students. For an example of a situation, a student who does not know an answer to a particular question can just google the question down on the internet and find the answer popped out. This can also be done when the teacher is not around as an independent learning. the computer is capable in helping the students a lot in a teacher’s shoes because for the things that are not taught by the teachers, can be found in the computers.
9. Yes, I would like to use the website in the future because the notes and exercises that are found in it are reliable and my students will gain benefits from using it. Not only that, the business English section is also helpful in helping adults improve their English in another aspect. As for homework and notes, I can just ask my students to just go to the website and copy my instructions. This surely saves time and I can definitely focus on something else in my English class. So, by using this website, it makes both me as the teacher and my students happy and profitable.
10. I would suggest the website to have a segment of listening because it covers a lot on grammar and no input or exercises on grammar. Not only that, the arrangement on the exercises is a bit confusing where the location of the link is scattered from where it should be. One major problem that I found is that it uses a lot of links. For each click, another link would come out in another window and if there are many things that you want to see, there would be many windows that would pop out. So, it is kind of messy and you tend to get confused at times seeing too many windows. And the webmaster should add more colors to it. Too much blue is boring and more cartoons or icons should be added to get the students’ attentions.
